Piroxicam

Piroxicam Injection 50 mg contains the active substance Piroxicam, a member of the oxicam group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and possesses analgesic and antipyretic properties. It is a pain-relieving medicine used to treat moderate to severe pain. It helps to relieve pain and swelling of various conditions related to joints and muscles. It blocks the action of chemical messengers in your body that causes pain and swelling. It is usually given in cases where oral administration is unsuitable.

Indications

Indicated in treating musculoskeletal disorders, acute gout, pain after operative intervention following acute trauma, and primary dysmenorrhea (12 years or older).

Pharmacology

This injection exerts its anti-inflammatory actions by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase-1, thereby, blocking the release of prostaglandins (a substance produced during injury and inflammation that causes pain and swelling) and other chemical mediators that cause pain and swelling.

Aspirin, acetylsalicylic acid, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief Anticoagulants such as warfarin, and heparin (a medicine used to prevent blood clots) Antacids such as warfarin, and heparin (a medicine used to prevent blood clots) Corticosteroids like prednisolone (medicines used to treat a variety of conditions such as allergies and hormone imbalance)
